The Wilkinsburg Youth Project (WYP) is a work readiness training program for high school aged youth, 14-18. WYP seeks to harness the energy and creativity of young people to create positive change in their community. Youth participate in programming that exists for the betterment of the Wilkinsburg community. AmeriCorps members act as resources to aid the youth in the realization of this work.
WYP consists of a large summer component and a smaller school-year program. Youth must work at least one summer and apply to be accepted into the school-year program. These youth then have the opportunity to hone their skills in their designated programs track and act as role models and leaders to their peers in subsequent summer sessions.
